Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. -Hebrews 11:1
Application to life:
At times we may feel that it is impossible to answer the call and to truly know what it means to have faith in God. It is important to understand what faith is and Hebrews 11 gives the definition to us! Faith is confidence and assurance. In this one verse we can see that faith is for the future and is not something that we can see.
What is confidence? It is the ability to rely on someone and in this case it would be the ability to rely on God. To know that He is for you. Assurance is the promise given to us by God in what we do not know and can not see. Faith means that we are completely giving up control and handing it to God while knowing that he stays true to His words.
Faith is most importantly an action. We show our faith in what we do and how we do it. If we are worried then our faith is not properly being shown. When we declare God’s promise and move forward by taking action based off of His promises and His direction then we are displaying our faith.
A Worshipper’s Word:
Many times before reaching Hebrews 11 I wondered what faith was. How can faith be described in words? How can you show faith? Faith is trusting the Lord to do what he says he will do and relying on God. So many times I would say that I have faith while still trying to control the outcomes of my life. I would have faith but with a back up plan just in case it didn’t go the way I would want it to go.
When we put trust into someone we are relying on them to do as they say. Faith is trusting God, the one who loves us most. By trusting the one who loves us more than all the others we have assurance that He will do what is best for us.
